Even’s Place Opens New Doors in Bardstown, Kentucky
A new chapter in serving people experiencing homelessness began in Bardstown with the dedication of Even’s Place, a comprehensive day shelter operated by Bethany Haven. The facility will provide individuals and families in Nelson County with a safe, welcoming space and resources to help them work toward stable housing.
The new shelter includes showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, and areas where guests can rest during the day. These services are especially important for people who are employed but do not have a permanent home, including those working second and third shifts.
Sister Janet Ballard, a former Bethany Haven board member, attended the dedication and reflected on the years of effort that led to this moment. She recalled earlier attempts to establish a day shelter and expressed gratitude that the project had finally become a reality.
Sister Brenda Gonzales, a current board member, also attended and shared her excitement about the new facility. She noted that work continues to make the space as welcoming and useful as possible, including plans for an outdoor area and additional supplies.
During the ceremony, Bethany Haven Executive Director Treasure Davidson thanked the many donors, volunteers, board members, and community partners who helped make Even’s Place possible.
Located on North Kennett Avenue, Even’s Place offers dignity, practical assistance, and a place of welcome for people facing difficult circumstances. For Sisters Janet and Brenda, the dedication was also a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to care for people in need. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, to feel welcome, and to have an opportunity for a better future.
The opening of Even’s Place is a blessing for Nelson County and a reminder of what is possible when a community comes together to care for its neighbors. Catholic social teaching calls us to recognize the dignity of every person, especially those who are poor, vulnerable or marginalized. Having a place where people experiencing homelessness can find shelter, basic necessities and compassionate support is an important part of living out that call. This community is fortunate to have this resource and the many people, organizations and volunteers who made it possible.
