Nazareth Convent High School, Vasai, celebrated World Environment Day on June 25, 2026. This year’s theme, “Inspired by Nature for Climate, for Our Future,” echoed the global celebration hosted by Azerbaijan, bringing the world together with one urgent message: Every environmental decision we make today shapes tomorrow.

The program began with an introduction to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations to create a sustainable future for all. Special emphasis was placed on SDG 13, Climate Action; SDG 14, Life Below Water; and SDG 15, Life on Land, which focus on protecting the climate, water bodies, and terrestrial ecosystems. These goals formed the foundation of the program and were reflected throughout the presentations.

Students presented an inspiring street play, “Dharti Ne FIR Likhwayi,” depicting the alarming condition of Mother Earth and the environmental challenges confronting humanity through impactful scenes, thought-provoking questions, and compelling performances. They highlighted issues including the struggles of farmers, water scarcity, plastic pollution, rising disease rates, extreme heat waves, the effects of the El Niño phenomenon on India’s rainfall patterns, deforestation in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the name of development, ongoing wars, and other pressing concerns. The performance encouraged the audience to reflect on the choices before them and inspired them to become active participants in protecting the planet. In addition to presenting these challenges, the students proposed practical and meaningful solutions through concrete actions everyone can take.

The street play was followed by a soulful rendition of “Earth Song,” which touched the hearts of the audience, while a graceful dance performance to “Heal the World” conveyed a powerful message of hope, responsibility, and collective action. An environmental pledge concluded the presentation, with students promising to protect and preserve the environment through responsible choices in their daily lives.

To further reinforce environmental awareness, a variety of grade-level activities were organized.

  • Students in Grades VIII through X participated in envelope-making activities that promoted reducing plastic use.
  • Grade VI students designed bookmarks featuring eco-friendly messages.
  • Grade VII students wrote environmental messages on leaves and displayed them on a symbolic Green Tree.
  • Grade V students created wristbands bearing eco-conscious slogans.

These activities gave students an opportunity to express their creativity while deepening their understanding of environmental responsibility.

The program concluded on a hopeful and inspiring note, reminding everyone that the future of our planet depends on the choices we make today.
