In today’s fast-paced digital world, screens often replace conversations and widen the generation gap. In response, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth’s Bangalore Province celebrated Grandparents’ Day and organized programs for senior citizens at its schools and social centers. These initiatives gave children an opportunity to honor their grandparents’ wisdom, sacrifices and unconditional love while strengthening relationships across generations.
Preranalaya Social Development Centre, a unit of Asha Deep Society, organized a health care program for older adults July 10, 2026, in Musunuru village. Thirty-five people, including older community members and students enrolled in skills training, attended. The program included health screenings, acupressure demonstrations, nutritious herbal tea and practical guidance on healthy living. Sister Swarupa, director of the center, encouraged participants to develop healthy daily habits and maintain active lifestyles. Participants responded positively and expressed gratitude for the care and support provided by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
St. Antony’s Church in Pakkam, the parish church of Nazareth Convent in Kakkavayal, celebrated Grandparents’ Day with a Mass offered for all grandparents. Many attended despite illness. Parishioners ages 70 and older were honored with shawls, while catechism students presented them with greeting cards and flowers as expressions of love and gratitude. The celebration also featured cultural performances and a cake-cutting ceremony. Sister Suma Muthukattuparabil and Sister Elsy Vettickal were recognized for their service to the parish. In her address, Sister Suma encouraged everyone to thank God for the gift of life and to care for older adults, whose hard work and sacrifices have helped shape their families.
More than 70 senior citizens from Crawford Parish gathered with the staff and students of Asha Deepam Special School on July 21, 2026, for their annual gathering. Cultural performances, nostalgic songs, skits and personal interactions highlighted the joy of bringing generations together. Sister Vijaya Chalil, vice provincial, and Sister Vimala Rani, treasurer of the Bangalore Province, attended the celebration. The seniors expressed appreciation for the love and respect shown to them and reaffirmed their continued support for the school.
More than 150 grandparents gathered at Nazareth School in Banakal on July 29, 2026, to celebrate Grandparents’ Day. Students delighted their grandparents with retro dances, a colorful costume presentation and a touching video featuring cherished memories and loving wishes. The performances filled the gathering with joy, and many grandparents were moved to tears as they watched their grandchildren onstage.
