New Book Celebrates the Beauty, History and Spirit of Nazareth
A new book invites readers to experience Nazareth through photographs, history, Scripture, and the words of those who helped shape the spiritual life of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

The idea for the book began with Marian Martin Yeager, Nazareth Academy Class of 1953 and Nazareth College Class of 1957. Her love for Nazareth inspired a group to consider how the beauty and meaning of the place might be shared through a collection of photographs and reflections.
That idea grew into a project guided by Sister Maria Vincent Brocato, Sister Mary Elizabeth Miller, Mary Martin, SCNA, Dana Hinton, Kacie Emmerson, and Spalding Hurst, SCNA.
Over time, the committee gathered photographs, considered the stories and history connected to the Nazareth campus, and shaped a book intended to give readers space to pause, reflect, and experience something of what generations of people have found at Nazareth.
“I feel such peace as soon as I turn into Nazareth” is a sentiment shared by many who visit the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Nazareth, Kentucky. The book explores what has made this place meaningful to so many people across more than two centuries.

Nazareth has been a place of prayer, education, community and ministry. Nearly 5,000 women have joined the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, carrying the Congregation’s mission from Kentucky to communities across the United States and today in India, Belize, Nepal, Botswana and Kenya.
For 150 years, thousands of students also came to Nazareth Academy and Nazareth College of Kentucky. For alumnae, Sisters, Associates, employees, families, visitors and friends, the campus holds generations of memories and connections.
Nazareth the Beautiful brings those connections together through images from throughout the campus. Readers will see familiar buildings, landscapes, sacred spaces, and details that can sometimes be missed in the course of an ordinary day.

The photographs are accompanied by Scripture and words from St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac and Mother Catherine Spalding. Together, the images and reflections offer a quiet journey through Nazareth and invite readers to consider God’s presence of God in their own lives.
The book also recognizes the generations of people who have cared for Nazareth and helped preserve its grounds, buildings and welcoming character.
For those who already know Nazareth, the hope is that the book will bring back familiar places, memories and experiences. For those encountering Nazareth for the first time, it offers an introduction to a place shaped by more than 200 years of history, prayer, relationships and service.
