Jasmine Huston has been named the new Volunteer Coordinator in the Office of Mission Advancement.
Through the Nazareth Volunteer Ministry, people are invited into experiences rooted in service, reflection, relationships and a willingness to learn from one another. Jasmine will help guide volunteers into those experiences, whether they take place close to Nazareth, Kentucky, where the Motherhouse of the Sisters of CHarity of Nazareth resides or alongside Sisters and communities in other parts of the world.
These special immersion experiences invite participants to enter another community with openness and a willingness to learn. Volunteers share daily life, learn about different cultures, listen to the experiences of others and offer their own time and gifts. They often return home carrying something they received from the people they met and the relationships they formed.
Jasmine brings several years of experience working alongside Sister Luke Boiarski, who led the volunteer ministry for 18 years. Jasmine traveled with her and learned firsthand how relationships shape the volunteer experience.
“I’m most excited about the opportunity to continue the Nazareth Volunteer Ministry while honoring its incredible history,” Jasmine said. “We’re building strong local initiatives and creating meaningful experiences. I also love that this role means supporting others as they build relationships with the people they serve, live out the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth mission of compassion and justice and grow through the experience.”
Jasmine said one of the most rewarding parts of the role is walking alongside volunteers as they discover where they can do the most good and realize they are making a difference in someone’s life.
She also reflected on the example Sister Luke set for her through the ministry.
“The greatest thing I’ve learned from Sister Luke is that true service begins with simply showing up,” Jasmine said. “She taught me to meet people where they are, without judgment, and to recognize the dignity in every person I encounter, especially those the world often overlooks. Her example has changed the way I serve others and the kind of person I hope to become.”
That spirit will continue as Jasmine helps people prepare for volunteer experiences and accompanies them as they discover what it means to serve alongside the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
In her new role, Jasmine will help build those connections, welcome new volunteers and create opportunities for people of different ages and backgrounds to experience the Nazareth mission in a personal way.
