A message from Saint Luke Institute President & CEO, Rev. Patrick J. McDevitt, CM, PhD, on SLI’s new five-year strategic plan.

I believe the life of faith calls us to keep God’s dream alive in our hearts, our homes, our Church, and our world.

Hi, I’m Father Pat with Saint Luke Institute. The Book of Proverbs reminds us that people need a vision to guide them. At the heart of Jesus’ message is the vision of the Kingdom of God, a kingdom of love, mercy, healing, and peace that is already taking root among us. That vision gives us hope.

It helps us to see beyond present difficulties and trust in what, with God’s grace, we can build together.

For nearly 50 years, Saint Luke Institute has accompanied clergy and religious from around the world through times of suffering, uncertainty, and renewal. Sustained by God’s grace and the generosity of so many friends, our mission has helped people rediscover their strength, renew their vocations, and reclaim hope. Our new strategic plan, Healing Hearts, Renewing Hope 2030, carries this mission forward, rooted in the three theological virtues of faith, hope, and love.

It centers on three priorities:

  1. Extend our programs to meet the changing needs of clergy and religious;
  2. Extend our reach so that more people can receive the care they need; and
  3. Strengthen operational revenue and philanthropic support to sustain our mission.

Behind each of these priorities is a person: a priest carrying burdens in silence, a sister seeking renewed strength, a seminarian discerning his future, or a deacon or lay minister striving to serve faithfully while attending to personal challenges. At its core, Healing Hearts, Renewing Hope 2030 is our commitment to be present, responsive, and prepared to meet their growing mental health and spiritual needs. We want those who serve the Church to know that they, too, deserve care, and that they do not have to face their struggles alone.

Hope inspires our mission.

Through compassionate care, we help heal wounded hearts, renew a sense of purpose, and support lives and vocations in need of restoration.

The plan also calls us to extend our educational ministry through digital media and new opportunities for learning and connection. These efforts will help us share our expertise more widely and listen more closely to the needs of clergy and religious across cultures and communities.

At 50 years, Saint Luke Institute is looking to the future to maintain and increase relevancy, reach, and impact. Healing Hearts, Renewing Hope 2030 is a comprehensive strategy to do just that: to ensure that we have the resources and relationships to fulfill our mission, to accompany priests, sisters, deacons, and all ministers in their healing journey, and thereby supporting their lives of service to the Church.

I invite you to learn more at SLI.org/hh, and to consider becoming a Partner in Healing through a monthly or quarterly gift at SLI.org/donate. Your generosity helps make healing possible and reminds those who come to us that a caring community stands beside them. Thank you for the many ways you heal hearts and renew hope in your own lives and communities.

Let us continue to support one another in prayer and partnership, nurturing healthy ministers for a vibrant Church and bringing Christ’s healing love to our world.
