CULKIN, Sister Eileen, SC (Sister John Joseph), a beloved Sister of Charity, Halifax for 77 years, entered peacefully into God’s loving embrace on December 18, 2025. The daughter of the late John Joseph Culkin and Marie (Bolin) Culkin, Ruth Culkin, stepmother, Sister Eileen was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, was raised in Long Island and attended Seton Hall High School in Patchogue. She was preceded in death by her and brothers, Thomas K. and John F. Culkin Sister Eileen leaves many loving nieces and nephews, in-laws, several grandnieces and nephews, as well as her Sisters throughout the Congregation in the United States and Canada. Sister Eileen was a gifted teacher, parish minister. She brought strong administrative skills and a loving heart wherever she was called to serve in both the classroom and in the positions she held within the congregation. Sister Eileen began her teaching ministry in Canada at the Oxford School and Saint Patrick High School in Halifax, NS. Returning to her home state of New York she continued teaching at Bishop Reilly High School, Fresh Meadows before being asked to assume the position of Provincial Secretary for the former New York Province. Following this, Sister Eileen moved into Parish Ministry serving as an Associate Pastor at Saint Bonaventure Parish, Jamaica, NY and Director of Religious Education at American Martyrs Parish in Bayside. She again served in congregational ministry as Assistant to the Provincial Treasurer. And then in the Mission Office for the Rockville Centre Diocese, NY. Sister Eileen completed her active ministry serving in the office at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in East Islip, NY. At a later time, Sister Eileen moved to Marillac Residence and then to Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley, MA Funeral Services for Sister Eileen Culkin, SC will take place on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Mount Saint Vincent, 125 Oakland Street, Wellesley, MA. Wake at 9:15 AM, followed by a Prayer Service at 10:15 AM and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:45 AM. Interment at Saint Mary Cemetery, Needham, MA, immediately following the Mass.
