The following statement was shared by Rev. Patrick J. McDevitt, CM, PhD, President & CEO of Saint Luke Institute on the recent passing of SLI Coordinator of Continuing Care Fr. Ken Phillips, TOR, MS:
The experience of death heightens our sobriety about life and all that we value. Whether the loss is of a family member, friend, or colleague, someone within our shared universe has taken their final journey home to God. The vulnerability opened by such loss is itself a grace—inviting deeper understanding, renewed gratitude, and a fuller appreciation of one another and of the gift of life entrusted to us.
For forty years, Fr. Ken Phillips was a steady presence and faithful witness within the Saint Luke Institute community. He never wavered in his dedication to our mission or in his commitment to those we serve. Fr. Ken’s life, ministry, and now his death invite us to reflect more deeply on our own service and to allow this moment to strengthen our resolve to live the mission of Saint Luke Institute with renewed fidelity.
Fr. Ken leaves us a lasting legacy of love, care, and steadfast commitment to the well-being of clergy and religious. The finest gift we can offer in his memory is to continue—and continually deepen—the mission to which he gave so much of his life.
Let us remember Ken, his sister Marilyn, the Phillips family, and the Third Order Regulars in our prayers. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
